In 1967, we had been married four years, we decided to spend the summer traveling. Why not go to Alaska ? Our only vehicle was a Landrover 109 (no frills). To get sleeping space we bought a Montgomery Ward “pop-up” camper. The camper came in a very large crate which we trailered to Vermont. Once in Vermont my cousin David and Uncle, Joe, helped assemble it. About the last week in June, we were ready for departure. This trip (2010) we have different equipment !!
Then 1967: 109 Safari Model Landrover, 4 cylinder gas ( severely underpowered to pull anything), on-the-floor manual shift. Towing a (approximate) 760lb pop-up trailer with one amenity… sleeps four. Now 2010: Ford F-250 4×4 6 liter diesel. Towing a 2004 Airstream Safari. With short queen bed, microwave, shower, stove/oven, furnace, air…..etc.

So, 43 years later, we’re in the Northern Lights Campground, Dawson Creek, BC, anxious to leave on this adventure….anticipating a much more “luxurious” trip this time.
I thought I remembered seeing some pictures (maybe slides?) from that first trip awhile back. I bet you had the real early model of the iPod back then too. 🙂
